Kicking Off Green Season: Dance, Friendship, and the Magic of Community

A Day of Dance, Friendship, and Reconnection

Yesterday marked the beginning of the Green Season for McGovern Irish Dance, and what a start it was! We had our first two performances of the season—one at Carroll High School and another at the Ancient Order of Hibernians' 135th annual party. It was a day filled with music, movement, and pure joy.

Our dancers—every single one of them—were incredible. They stepped onto those stages with confidence, lighting up their audiences with the energy and passion that makes Irish dance so special. I was beaming with pride, watching them give their all, knowing how much work they’ve put into getting here.

The weather was on our side, too. With the sun shining and temperatures hovering around 50 degrees, it felt like a little gift from nature—just warm enough to remind us that spring is on its way.

But the real magic of the day wasn’t just in the performances. It was in the people. Irish dance has brought so many wonderful souls into my life, and yesterday, I was reminded of just how lucky I am. I got to reconnect with friends I don’t see nearly as often as I’d like. We laughed, we reminisced, we shared drinks and dinner, and for a few beautiful hours, it felt like no time had passed at all.

Even better, I got to watch those friends connect with each other. There’s something really special about seeing the web of relationships that Irish dance creates—not just for me, but for everyone involved. Parents chatting like old friends, dancers bonding over shared experiences, and supporters coming together to celebrate the traditions we all love. These moments remind me that what we do is so much bigger than just dance. It’s about community.

Yesterday was a perfect reminder of why we do what we do. And if this is just the beginning of Green Season, I can’t wait to see what’s next. 💚
